Upgrade FreeBSD 5.4 to FreeBSD 6.0

I need to get to 6.0, so I can connect in and use the Netgear WG311 v3 wireless card. This will net allow the boat to cruise close to the shore, and still be in contact with my laptop for debugging purposes etc.

Find a way to easily backup the CF card

Either use ghost, booting from CD, or 'dd' to backup the CF partition.

Build the DS one-wire harness

There will be at least 7 DS18S20 temp. sensors, and maybe a DS2450 AD convertor on the harness.

DS18S20 will connect too:-

  • Motor battery
  • Electronics Battery
  • Motor
  • Motor Controller
  • PC - CPU
  • PC - North-South Bridge (it is hotter than the CPU!)
  • Outside air temp
  • later, the water temp.

The DS2450 will connect too:-

  • Motor battery voltage
  • Electronics battery voltage
  • later, RPM?

Test out using the DS2450 A/D convertor.

Will first have to find or write some code to talk to, and controll the DS2450 chip.  Should be interesting!  How fast can this collect samples?
